It's official: Vampires are the new cool or, at least, the people's choice. The pop-culture juggernaut that is "Twilight" picked up six nominations this morning for the 2010 People's Choice Awards, including favorite movie, favorite franchise, and the on-screen team of leads Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner.
The trio also received individual acting nods, with Pattinson and Stewart nominated for movie actor and movie actress and Lautner for breakout movie actor.
Vampires also ruled the roost on the small screen, with HBO's camp treasure "True Blood" taking noms for TV obsession and TV sci-fi/fantasy. Star Anna Paquin also was nominated for TV drama actress. The 2010 People's Choice Awards will be broadcast live Jan. 6 on CBS.
The list of nominees, announced today in Beverly Hills at the SLS Hotel, are after the jump.
FOR THE RECORD: An earlier version of this post incorrectly said the nominations were announced in downtown Los Angeles at the Nokia Center.

Stars from the second installment of the Twilight saga -- New Moon -- descended upon Cherry Hill, N.J. Tuesday evening to greet fans and talk about the upcoming flick.
Hundreds of screaming girls, some moms and even a few guys lined the halls of the Cherry Hill Mall as they waited for the chance to meet actors Charlie Bewley and Daniel Cudmore.
The two play vampires Demetri and Felix in the next chapter of the Twilight series.
"Absolutely flattering," said Bewley of the intense fan attention. "I'm pretty sure my inner 14-year old is having a great time."

Recently, midnight-release-ticket-buying "New Moon" fans completed a Fandango poll in which they were asked to fill out a survey about the franchise. Some questions were fun (i.e. "Which 'Twilight' actor is closest to the way you imagined the character?" Response: Ashley Greene), and others were a little, well, off. When asked, "Which of these young actors will be the first 'Twilight Saga' veteran to win an Oscar in their career?," Robert Pattinson dominated the results. However, we want you to turn your attention to Forks High School human Anna Kendrick, who as we noted earlier today, thinks Dakota Fanning could be among the first to take home the gold. In this hypothetical race, Anna is the clear all-star and Robert is still a bench warmer. After all, the actress is becoming something of a sensation. As the second youngest person to ever be nominated for a Tony award, it shouldn't be a surprise that she is gaining critical praise for her film roles after only being in the business for six years. Her role as Natalie in Jason Reitman's upcoming dramedy "Up In The Air" is a standout in a film where everyone (George Clooney included!) delivered their best performances.
So it can only be described as close-mindedness (and/or the fact that "Up In The Air" hasn't been released nationally yet) that Anna only earned 1 percent of the votes in the aforementioned poll. It is safe to describe all those surveyed by Fandango as "Twilight" fans because the questionnaire was sent out in an e-mail to those who purchased tickets to the very first showings of "New Moon." And why would you purchase those tickets if you don't adore the series?
With that clarified, I feel it's fair to say there was a certain bias that went into RPattz getting 43 percent of the votes for "Twilight" star with most Oscar potential. Forty-three percent! Did anyone else see the look on his face when he was sucking the venom out of Bella's veins at the end of "Twilight"? Better acting went into "Twilight With Cheeseburgers."
Now, I will give everyone the benefit of the doubt in terms of Rob because the only other film I've seen of his is "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," in which he has roughly three lines. "How To Be" was supposed to be pretty good (though his audition tapes didn't convince me very much), and I give him props for that.
But the question was who will be the "first" veteran to win an Oscar, and somehow I think Anna has that lined up a bit better than anyone else in this category (Dakota earned 29 percent of the votes, and Kristen Stewart got 23). Keep in mind this poll was taken after the film festivals where "Up In The Air" was screened, which means Oscar talk about Anna has been buzzing for a month or so now.
Granted, in "Twilight" Anna's Jessica doesn't have that many scenes, but the scenes she is in are actually quite funny. And while I might not exactly be preaching to the choir right now, Robert was far, far, far, far, FAR from being the best actor in that film (Cam Gigandet was actually my favorite, but that's just me). And if the argument for Rob being so great comes from his other works — which, I reiterate, I have not seen — then the same should be said for Anna. For him to get the most and her to get none just seems to this Crusher to be a sign of ignorance, or bias over a pretty face.

TWILIGHT hunk ROBERT PATTINSON was embarrassed by recent rumours of a romance with MEGAN FOX - because gossip magazines reported he had taken her on a "cheesy" date.
The stars fuelled speculation about a relationship when they posed for photos together at the Teen Choice Awards in Los Angeles in August (09).
The Transformers beauty subsequently dismissed the reports, insisting she barely knows the Brit heart-throb.
And the story made Pattinson cringe - because of all the phony details.
He tells British magazine Heat, "I wouldn't be that cheesy if I was to go on a date with her. Because I read this magazine thing that said, 'He was rubbing her back, they were drinking Merlot... He was reading her poetry.' I was so embarrassed, like, 'Oh God!'"
But Pattinson admits his friends were very impressed by the rumours: "I kept getting all these texts from my mates in England saying, 'Whoa, are you going out with Megan Fox?' And I'd met her once, for like two seconds."

While The Twilight Saga: New Moon belongs to Jacob and the Wolf Pack, the sequel also introduces a new, sinister threat: the Volturi, an ancient and powerful coven of vampires who rule the vampire world from beneath the Italian city of Volterra. We spoke with Jamie Campbell-Bower – a.k.a. the Volturi leader Caius – about his brief but important appearance in New Moon, his ambiguously homosexual portrayal of Gellert Grindelwald in the upcoming Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, and how he's managed to avoid falling victim to the fan and media frenzy that surrounds co-stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart – despite having tens of thousands of followers on Twitter. You play Caius, one of the three powerful vampires who rule the Volturi. But we only get to see you briefly, at the end of New Moon. Is it challenging to infuse your character with all of the back story and motivations that he has when you have limited screen time?
Jamie Campbell-Bower: Well, it wasn't difficult because there's so much back story, particularly to the Volturi. We all knew what we were there for, we knew what we were doing. You know, the thing about the Volturi is that they're introduced in the second film and then come the fourth book, that's where the meatiness lies. So it's an introduction, effectively. But I wasn't disappointed; I knew exactly what I was going to be doing when I got the script. I'm just psyched to be involved in it.
You're appearing in quite a few upcoming genre projects: New Moon, which is a vampire story, AMC's The Prisoner, which is sci-fi, and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Was this all by coincidence?
Well, if all else fails, I can just become one of those guys who goes to Comic-Con every year to have my own booth and get paid to do autographs. [Laughs.] That's what I'm investing in – I'm investing in the end of my career.
What's the dirt on your Harry Potter character?
It's a character called Grindelwald, he's an old friend of Dumbledore's – possibly, his lover – and they have this idea that they can create this perfect wizardry world. But it all goes to the pot and they have a big fight, and something awful happens and someone dies. It's very sad.
You say Grindelwald and Dumbledore are "possibly" lovers…
Well obviously, because it's a 12A film, there are going to be no hardcore love scenes. Put it that way.
But it's something that you had in mind when you approached the character?
I think so. Yes. There's obviously a very strong connection between Dumbledore and Grindelwald, so it's something that you have to bear in mind.
American audiences aren't as familiar with the original British series The Prisoner. What can you tell us about the remake?
In a way, that's kind of a good thing. Well, it's neither a good nor a bad thing. Our version of The Prisoner is an updated version and we haven't gone in and remade the original show. People will be able to connect with it even if they haven't seen the original.
You've become one of the Twilight stars with enormous Twitter followings. How do you decide what to share with your fans?
Twitter's a great thing, but I never put anything that's incredibly personal on there. Just tidbits of information. If I'm working on a job, I will always ask production what I can say and what I can't say; you don't want to get into trouble about it. But also, it's good press if you're working on a job. So I try to be personal, but not to a point where I feel people know everything about me.
Were there any Twitter impositions while you were working on New Moon?
For New Moon, obviously they didn't want to give the look of the Volturi away, or their locations. I would never post a location of where I was, just personally and safety wise, but obviously with the hysteria that surrounds Rob [Pattinson] and Kristen [Stewart] and Taylor [Lautner], you have to be respectful of that. I think that's just human nature. So all I would say is, "I had a gret day filming today, off to bed" and crack on tomorrow.
Joining the franchise with the second film, have you taken any cues on handling the media spotlight from watching Rob and Kristen deal with it?
I don't think so. It's not something that I really focus on in my life. It's not something that I wake up thinking about. I do feel for people that have photographers follow them around everywhere, because it's very invasive. You want to be able to live your life. Who cares if someone walks down the road having a cigarette, and people are taking pictures of you… I just don't think that's very fair.
Have paparazzi photographers gotten to a point where they disrupt your personal life?
It depends on where I am, and it depends on what I'm doing. Cameron [Bright], Charlie [Bewley], and I went to the Rome Film Festival last week and obviously when you're there to promote a film like New Moon, that has such hysteria surrounding it, you have to be aware and accept the fact that there are going to be people there who do follow you around and want to take your picture. So when I'm doing something promotionally I am aware. That doesn't mean that I change what I do, it just means that I deal with it. But when I'm back home in London, I'm able to do whatever the hell I like, just because A) nobody knows where I live, and B) nobody gives a shit. So I still have relative anonymity, which is great.

'To be able to have her there with me all the time has just been great,' 'New Moon' star says. After Taylor Lautner famously hit the gym to keep his role in the "Twilight" series, Kristen Stewart told MTV News she was thankful he hadn't been replaced for "New Moon." And as filming began for the sequel, the co-stars were able to build on their relationship for the benefit of the film and their fans.
"I'm so glad they didn't have to find somebody else; we already had him!" Stewart told us back in January, and she continued to support Lautner as the two worked to capture the tentative love story between heartbroken Bella Swan and werewolf-to-be Jacob Black.
"Kristen has been absolutely amazing to work with," Lautner said in an interview provided by studio Summit Entertainment. "She's such a talented actress, so to be able to have her there with me all the time has just been great. The relationship between us is wonderful, and she's a lot of fun to have on set and be with me all the time."
Stewart expressed admiration for Lautner's commitment to the franchise, including packing on almost 30 pounds and pulling off a shape-shifting makeover almost as impressive as the one displayed by his werewolf character. "He's stepped up in a way — out of anyone that has anything to do with this movie — it's the most impressive transformation," she said in another Summit interview. "Which is funny, because he's supposed to undergo a transformation in the movie anyway. But he did it in his real life, and it's so cool to see that. And to be part of it a little bit too, just to be around it — he's growing into a really good guy. And he's really good in the movie. He's so strong."

'I've heard that we're going to shoot it in Portland,' Edward Cullen says of the film's location and Van Sant's home base. In early 2008, then-little-known actors including Robert Pattinson, Ashley Greene and Taylor Lautner traveled to Portland to shoot a small vampire film that they hoped would get a theatrical release. Barely two years later, "Twilight" is one of the biggest franchises in Hollywood, with two Vancouver-filmed sequels rolling into theaters. Now, Pattinson is revealing plans to return to the city where it all began — and recommending the Portland-based Oscar nominee he wants to direct "Breaking Dawn."
"I probably shouldn't say this," Rob revealed to MTV News over the weekend, acknowledging that the wheels are slowly creeping into motion on "Breaking Dawn" getting made. "But I've heard that we're going to shoot it in Portland.
"I think Gus Van Sant would be great to do it," RPattz added, naming his dream director.
A double Oscar nominee for "Good Will Hunting" and last year's "Milk," Van Sant went to school in Portland, and has called the city home for many years while filming such movies as "Drugstore Cowboy," "My Own Private Idaho" and the 2005 Kurt Cobain-quasi-biopic "Last Days."
"He shoots everything in Portland," reasoned the 23-year-old British heartthrob. "He's good at making it look beautiful."
Pattinson, whose long-term plans include starting a production company that would help make the sort of small, indie films that Van Sant has been overseeing for decades, thinks Stephenie Meyer's fourth novel would be a perfect fit for the "To Die For" director. Overflowing with teenage angst, sex and violence, "Dawn" is the sequel that Twilighters are most eager to see. And, with scenes of Edward giving Bella a vampire cesarean, Jacob selecting the pale vampire-human baby as his soul mate and Bella as a vampire, it also promises to quite possibly be the weirdest.
"It's all about teenage love and obsessions," Rob explained. "I think Gus Van Sant would be great."

Just days before the new Twilight movie "New Moon" hits theaters, two actors from the film stopped by 9NEWS to talk about life behind the scenes.
Alex Meraz who plays the werewolf, Paul, and Kiowa Gordon who plays his pack brother, Embry Call, say the real life actors are much like the tribal brothers in the movie.
"We definitely have bonded and we really are a pack. That's the good thing about these films is that it's really rare that you get to work with people you enjoy. We even text each other to make sure we're doing well. We're like real brothers," Meraz said.
The four actors make their debut in "New Moon" as the Quileute wolf pack at odds with vampires.
In this second installment of the Twilight films based on the novels by Stephenie Meyers, vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson, breaks up with Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart.
Swan comes face to face with a dangerous vampire and almost meets her end before she is saved by her childhood friend, Jacob Black, played by Taylor Lautner.
Black reveals to Swan that he is a werewolf and she discovers the secret of the pack as the love triangle unfolds and vampire-werewolf drama ensues.
The actors who play the wolf pack spend much of the movie shirtless and Meraz says a lot of the work for the movie was in the gym.
"The workouts, we called them the three 'Ps.' It was protein, push-ups and pushing each other. It's kind of what we did to get each other through the workouts to get us in shape to do all these shirtless scenes," he said.
In addition to the workouts, Gordon says a lot of stunts went into the making of the movie, including one scene that required them to jump 50 feet and land on an air bag.
"We try to get comfortable before our scene, jumping off things and landing on an air bag. We started with 25 feet and then they bumped it up. You just have to get all that antsy-ness out and just go for it. It's pretty fun," Gordon said.
This is the first major role for the two actors and both say the fame has come on fast.
"It's weird. On my MySpace I have people from Brazil, from France, from Italy, lots of places it's crazy," Gordon said.
But Gordon and Meraz say they can understand the popularity of the movie which has many universal themes.
"I think that's what fans across the world have enjoyed about it is that it's a love story done in this fantasy realm and why people connect to it is because there's so much that they can relate to. Everyone knows what it feels like to be dumped or to try to befriend somebody or defend somebody or to get revenge and these books, the films, they have it all," Meraz said.
"New Moon" hits theaters Friday, Nov. 20. It is expected to surpass the $384 million that Twilight sank its teeth into in theatres worldwide last year.
